Updating of an evidence assignment can be equated with finding a compromise between the prior distribution and the new evidence, with the resulting posterior a function these two distributions. In general evidence theory [11] such update is effected by Dempster rule of combination; in probability theory one can speak of Bayesian updating [6], and in possibility [1] one can view conjunction as updating operator.
