摘要

Polyimide (PI) materials are widely used being lightweight, flexible, having excellent heatresistance and resistant to most chemicals. PI applications include high temperature fuel cells, mechanicalstress buffers, semiconductor chip insulation and passivation, LED displays, space vehicle multi-layeredinsulation, and aircraft parts thus property improvement is important. This study focuses on surface activationby applying homogeneous low voltage electron beam irradiation (HLEBI) to PI surface to increase hardnessand fracture toughness KIC. Vickers hardness specifications have been useful for load-bearing parts on aircraft.HLEBI is an emerging easy method that does not use atom bombardment, catalyst, or chemical treatment,and large area sheets can be treated.
