Streptococcus uberis is one of the most frequently isolated pathogens causing clinical mastitis (CM) worldwide. This pathogen is considered one of the major barrier to control of bovine mastitis because its role in the epidemiology of this disease isnot completed understood. Molecular methods have been successfully used in studies aiming to better understand the epidemiology of Streptococcus spp. causing mastitis. The identification of genotypic diversity among Strep, uberis isolates causing intramammary infections (IMI), and the determination of potential antimicrobial resistance may help veterinarians and farmers to improve the efficacy of CM therapy (Kaczorek et al., 2017). Molecular epidemiology of Strep, uberis causing CM was reported in several countries, however, no epidemiology and resistance profiles of Strep, uberis isolates have not been determined in Brazil. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to: (a) genotypically characterize Strep, uberis strains recovered from cases of CMin dairy cows; and, (b) determine the association of antimicrobial susceptibility and genotypes of Strep, uberis clustered by the genetic similarity.
