摘要

Chronic enteropathies encompass several disease manifestations, including diet-responsive diarrhea, antibiotic-responsive diarrhea, and idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease. Chronic enteropathies (CE) are considered of multifactorial origin, caused by a combination of an underlying genetic susceptibility, an aberrant immune response, and microbiota dysbiosis. Over the last years several studies have evaluated the microbiota dysbiosis that occurs as part of chronic enteropathies. Studies using sequencing of 16S rRNA genes have described dysbiosis in dogs and cats with chronic enteropathies (CE) and acute diarrhea.1 In CE there is an increase in proportions of bacterial genera belonging to Proteobacteria (e.g., E. coli) and decreases in Fusobacteria,Bacteroidetes, and members of Firmicutes (i.e., Faecalibacterium, Ruminococcaceae, Turicibacter, Blautia). While molecular approaches have solidified our knowledge about microbial alterations that occur during GI disease in dogs, relative limited information is available about the functional consequences of the dysbiosis.
