This paper addresses how ubiquitous learning by means of a learning management system can be supported amongst higher education learners as they traverse in various learning environments. Thus the research argument driving this paper is that learning resources and support sensitive to the learner's context should follow the learners, regardless of location and time. In this context, resources include knowledgeable peers who could provide an on-demand academic support wherever they are. The purpose of the research was to understand how ubiquitous learning can be supported using learning management systems in a higher education environment. Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and the University of South Africa (UNISA) were used in the case study. Interpretive paradigm was followed using qualitative methods; an open-ended questionnaire and textual interactions as data collection techniques. Using Activity theory as a lens, empirical evidence was collected and analyzed. The study concluded that LMSs could help leverage the challenge of providing ubiquitous learning support if certain elements are tailored to a South African learner's background.
