Role Of Bacterial Endotoxin In Endometriosis And Its Effect On Reproductive Outcome

Objectives: Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent chronic inflammatory disease mainly affectingwomen of reproductive age. The exact pathogenesis or physiopathology of this enigmatic disease is still debatable.Main problems of this disease range from decreased quality of life, difficulty in achieving pregnancy and risk ofrecurrence even after medical or surgical therapy. Besides ovarian steroids, a number of secondary inflammatorymediators have been proposed to be involved in the growth of endometriosis. However, information regarding theeffect of initial inflammatory mediator on endometriosis is limited. Here, we investigated the role and source ofinitial inflammatory mediator such as bacterial endotoxin (LPS) in endometriosis and its possible involvement inreproductive outcome.
