Background: Endometriosis may induce an inflammatory reaction and a stress reaction in pelvic micro-environment. Besides ovarian steroid hormones, the growth of endometriosis can be regulated by the innate immune system. Since bacterial endotoxin (LPS) and endogenous heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) interact with the same toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), we investigated the role of endotoxin and Hsp70 in pelvic inflammation and growth of endometriosis.
