Clinical effectiveness and range of application of oocyte in vitro maturation

Oocyte in-vitro maturation (IVM) was initially developed as an animal technology. Subsequently, it hasbeen proposed as an alternative to conventional ovarian stimulation in human IVF. Its success depends cruciallyon the number of retrieved oocytes. For this reason, women presenting with polycystic ovaries are electivecandidates for an IVM treatment. Notwithstanding, normo-ovulatory women with appropriate characteristicsmay be eligible for IVM. Recent evidence suggests that IVM may be proposed also as a possible option forfemale fertility preservation.
