The gloss was reduced 5% between the control and 50% replacement coating with a 2% reduction in brightness The Sheffield smoothness dropped 20 SU. The DuPont appearance increased 5-10 pts in the 12.5%, 25.0%, and 37.5% replacement coatings but decreased 10 pts for the 50% coating. The cost savings associated with purchasing the silicate nanofibers, instead of TiO2, could be beneficial in a coating formulation. The effectiveness of the silicate nanofibers in a coating system would be effective at medium to low quantities.
