Effect of Prior Specific Procedural Knowledge and Declarative Knowledge on Identification of Entrepreneur Opportunities in Process of Entrepreneurship Creation

The domain of entrepreneurship is built on the identification and exploitation of business opportunities. Entrepreneurship takes place because some individuals identify products and services that did not previously exist, and launch new ventures to commercialize these products or services. What makes some individuals identify entrepreneur opportunities where others do not? Of the different factors, the influence of prior accumulative specific knowledge (procedural knowledge and declarative knowledge) is as the basis for recognizing entrepreneur opportunities. Based on experimental investigation and empirical analysis, this paper divides prior specific knowledge into procedural knowledge and declarative knowledge, and studies how these types of knowledge could affect the types of opportunities identified in the new venture development process. There are both theoretical and practical implications for better explaining the creation of entrepreneurship. The findings support the training on procedural knowledge of how to identify opportunities, rather than declarative information about a particular industry.
