Prediction of ship hydrodynamic derivatives is essential to evaluate ship's maneuvering capabilities. In this paper, static drift simulation results are shown for a very large crude carrier ship model, KVLCC2. For simulation, a RaNS based solver, SHIP_Motion, was used. The solver solves overset structured mesh using finite volume method. The simulation results were compared with experimental data. Next, linear hydrodynamic derivatives were predicted from simulation results and compared with experimental ones. The results show good agreement with experimental data and the paper concludes that the solver, SHIP_ Motion, is well capable to estimate hydrodynamic derivatives maintaining reasonable accuracy and economics.
