A significant potential in reducing mechanical power losses in modern vehicle powertrain is the application related optimization of components, such as roller bearings and seals. The software tool "VEPS" (Vehicle Environmental Performance simulator) enables the prediction of the impact of any bearing position on power loss in the car driveline and its contribution to petrol consumption and CO_2 emission. Based on this bearing design and inner geometry can be optimized.
