Strawberry is a well known fruit of frequent human consumption. In Europe the main producer of strawberry is Spain, mainly the south west of the country, being Huelva the principal area of production due to its own specific conditions of soil, climate and availability of good quality water. The annual production is 312,000T of strawberry per year that represents 94% of the national production and generates 420 10~6 ? annually. Fragaria ananassa Var. California camarosa is the most cultivated and competitive variety in the European market for several reasons: production period, high productivity, sensory quality and adaptation to soil and climatic conditions.
