Sulfur is present in liquid fuels (Diesel, JP-8) in the level of 5 - 10000 ppm and has a negative impact on stack's electrochemical performance and needs to be investigated for our civilian (less than 2 ppm) and military (less than 25 ppm) mobile-APU customers. A typical Diesel CPO (catalytic partial oxidation) based reformate consists of CO, H2O, CO2, H2, N2 and their percentage composition is determined by the CPO's operational and functional parameters, i.e., catalyst formulations, temperature, fuel quality etc. Electricity is produced in a stack from diesel reformate via two reaction pathways, i.e., (I) conversion of CO to H2 via water gas shift reaction, and (ii) electrochemical oxidation of produced H2 to H2O and electrons. CO is also electrochemically oxidized depending on the fuel utilization and current densities of the stack operation and contributes towards the total power produced.
