PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a super-low sulfur gas oil base material having a sulfur content of 1 mass ppm or less without largely increasing consumption of hydrogen under a relatively mild condition and outstandingly reducing an aromatic component, and to further provide a super-low sulfur gas oil composition with excellent fuel consumption and output not giving a bad influence to a member of a fuel injection system.;SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method for the super-low sulfur gas oil base material, a low sulfur gas oil fraction having a sulfur content of 2-50 mass ppm and a content of polycyclic aromatic component of 4 vol% or less is brought into contact with a porous desulfurizing agent having a sulfur sorption function in co-presence of hydrogen to perform a desulfurization treatment and the super-low sulfur gas oil base material having a sulfur content of 1 mass ppm or less is obtained. Further, the super-low sulfur gas oil composition having a sulfur content of 1 mass ppm or less, preferably having a content of a polycyclic aromatic component of 3 vol% or less contains the super-low sulfur gas oil base material.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
