Trying to emphasize the competitive environment in Romania, we analyzed the relationship between net profit and certain items of expenditure shown in the profit and loss account. In this way we conducted a survey of 1230 SMEs from several sectors. If sometimes the relationship between the expenses and net profit was the expected one, some other time our research has revealed some situations that should be regulated from fiscal point of view.
