Catalytic oxidation activity for Carbon black simulating the soot of diesel particulate matters to CO{sub}2 over Pt/Al{sub}2O{sub}3, Pt-Mn/Al{sub}2O{sub}3 and Pt/Ba-Al{sub}2O{sub}3 catalysts has been investigated with model gases of diesel emission. Two stages of catalysts with the strategies of promoting the soot and NO{sub}x reduction, simultaneously, was composed of the oxidation catalyst for carbon black and the other functional catalyst. The catalytic oxidation for carbon black to CO{sub}2 was accelerated by activated oxidants and some exothermic reaction over the catalyst which lies in upstream of two stages. But the two stages of catalysts with carbon black oxidation catalyst sited in upstream showed the initiation of catalytic oxidation activity at lower temperature than other case. Two stage of catalysts composed of Pt/Al{sub}2O{sub}3 in upstream and Pt-Mn/Al{sub}2O{sub}3 with carbon black in downstream showed high catalytic oxidation activity for carbon black to CO{sub}2 with 80% consumption rate of carbon black to total loaded carbon black in the range of 350-500°C in the test process made of 4°C/min heating rate.
