In this work, a case study showing the characterization, simulation and optimization of a painting line of automotive parts in Monterrey, México is presented. The purpose was to determine the best possible configuration of the line in terms of operation policies and modifications proposed by the plant's engineering team to increase throughput. This case serves as a full scale validation of a design of experiments and metamodeling ?based simulation optimization method. The results include savings in terms of computational time using the simulation model as well as in terms of money through the choice of the final configuration vs. other dominated solutions.
