In this work, a case study showing the characterization, simulation and optimization of a painting line of automotiveparts in Monterrey, México is presented. The purpose was to determine the best possible configuration of the line interms of operation policies and modifications proposed by the plant's engineering team to increase throughput. Thiscase serves as a full scale validation of a design of experiments and metamodeling ?based simulation optimizationmethod. The results include savings in terms of computational time using the simulation model as well as in terms ofmoney through the choice of the final configuration vs. other dominated solutions.
