Biofilms on pure titanium and a titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) were investigated by Raman spectroscopy. They were formed by using a flow type laboratory biofilm reactor. Raman spectroscopy confirmed that both biomaterials have high resistance to biofilm formation, as compared to other materials such as iron and copper. Raman spectroscopy showed that the biofilms were composed of polysaccharides, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. However, the ratios of those components changed depending on the substrate materials used and experimental conditions. To improve the application of Raman spectroscopy to sense immunity and infection, the peaks should be further analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively
