This article is based on a dynamic initiative that should help realize the Norwegian government interministryaction plan “Entrepreneurship in Education – from elementary school to higher education2009-2014”. The primary focus is directed towards the implementation of entrepreneurship – orentrepreneurial learning – within compulsory education. The project, however, is also intended todevelop entrepreneurial key skills and a force for renewal as contributory factors to the development oftomorrow’s schooling and society. The development of versatile learning arenas and varied learningenvironments with local and regional roots are essential tools for this work. By renewing the bestqualities of the existing compulsory education sector and by further development of the learningarenas of both school and university the project will contribute to the deployment of creative,experimental and enquiry-led forms of work. At the same time, relevant research-based patterns ofwork must be used to ensure renewal and to promote creative and motivational projects both incompulsory education and in teacher training. This research project’s contribution to the work willinclude the development of alternative learning environments in which educational institutionscollaborate with local bodies: companies, cultural and social institutions. In this way the researchproject will be a means of developing the school sector as a contemporary and geographicallyrelevantlearning organisation and of strengthening the skills of teacher training as a participatory forcein local society. The intention is to develop an entrepreneurial pedagogy that in the short term willstrengthen the pupils’ desire for activity, desire for learning and their motivation, but which will alsopromote their long-term development and professional skills. The research project is rooted in theresearch - group for Entrepreneurship in Education at the University of Nordland. We wish to highlightthe creative and innovative strength that this newly established university can offer. Skills developedthrough previous project participation are also taken into use in this new project through developingthe learning culture of compulsory education. The project will also use web-based learning andcommunication forms – “blended learning”.
