It’s very important for not only a sculpture student but also an artist to have knowledgeand to be aware of the classical age and what has been done till today. To make yourown path, to find the uniqueness of yourself, as an artist it’s the necessity for you to studyand examine the classical. That’s why it’s very important for the sculpture departmentstudent to have the classical education in sculpture education. After having the education,making the research and improve his observation skills, he’ll choose the path that he’sgoing to go through.Being able to see what exists will lead the artist candidate to be able to see what hewants to see later when he starts to search what he’s been looking for. As we have theclassical education for the sculpture department students, after having the classicaleducation, in their senior year, they start to compose their unique and original artworks.A Polish sculptor, Thomasz Opania came to the sculpture department to have aworkshop with the sculpture department students. Opania is an artist who deals withperformance arts. As our sculpture department has the education of classical sculpture,the students and the Polish sculptor/academician had some difficulties to contribute inthis workshop at the beginning. As a polish sculptor, who was born in a place where greatexamples of the classical and modern terms which exists all around, and field of artconsists of only the contemporary ones, came to represent the contemporary point ofview that they have. At the workshop the students created a new way of looking tocontemporary sculpture by finding some ready made objects and re-designing sculpturewith them, making performances through the concepts that they chose.The students, who were used to express their thoughts and their selves through thesculpture field, saw and realize that, it’s possible for them to express what they think byother fields too. During the workshop, the sculpture department students had broken thewalls between the classical methods and the contemporary methods and had a verysuccessful result. With this five days report and diary of this workshop, as it can be seenthrough the pictures and artworks, the progress and the result was so satisfying. Thestudents of freshman year had a great experience of being in the sculpture department.Besides their sculpture department classes they had a five days workshop of a differenttypes of expressions. The excited students had the chance to discover their capacitiesand talents once again. Besides their own field, they expressed theirselves by a differentway which made them think and expanded the ways that they think.In conclusion, this international workshop provided a different experience to the sculpturedepartment and to its students. In education, especially in art education, it’s the mostimportant thing to be receptive to novelties. The student should be aware of his/hercapacity in any field. Being receptive to differences and novelties will lead them to besuccessful and satisfied at their professional career. This workshop, made the sculpturedepartment students excited about something new to them and make them want tocontribute and participate and to be a part of this event. This will lead the student to beexcited at his/her field too.And the educator must give them the chance to have thatexcitement and enthusiasm to their fields that they have chosen.
