From an ethnomusicology point of view, this paper reviews the concept of musical education as a contextualised answer to contemporary culture. The text justifies the position that music occupies within culture, a position that develops from an interdisciplinary approach. For this purpose, art and music are revised from the Psychoanalysis, Art Theory and Communication Theory. Subsequently, the context is focused within the text as if it were a musical space of identity and alertly, where questions are posed; who is the other person; his or her place; his or her music; the anonymous and collective enclaves of the contemporary man; music in the everyday life and in fashion, among others. Likewise, it not only tries to reconstruct the way music talks to the others through the sound image of the world, but also the interpretations of diversity that these offer us, and at the same time, it leads the reader towards the ambivalence of the term 'diversity' in musical education and its interpretation methods. The central theme of the text is to show a critical, committed and contextualised attitude towards musical education, one that justifies its presence in the school institution and in contemporary culture. For this reason, an ecologicalconstructivist project which responds to the theoretical approaches that are exponded as premises for research-action is proposed in the conclusion of this article.
