The purpose of this study is to know the visually impaired trainees' capability of using personal computers and related factors to encourage the computer usage. The result of questionnaires for 36 male trainees revealed that 1) the percentages of the computer user increased from 40 to 70% after the training at the center, 2) fifty-three percent of trainees asked their friends to set up their computers, 3) capability of using computers are not related to age, work experiences and previous experience of computers, but related to the scores of some items of the self-perception scale, 4) the average self-perception scores of the trainees were significantly lower than that of the control group. These results suggest that 1) information classes at the center contribute to increase the number of computer users, 2) further training is required, for trainees, family members and service providers, and 3) strategies to increase self-perception of trainees are required to empower for them.
