Paralleling the predominant cross-cultural communicative teaching theory, many EFL teaching materials in China claim to be ones focusing on culture. Actually, the main EFL courses and textbooks are not actually communicative but language knowledge-centered or skill-centered; the majority of the cultural contents of the prevailing EFL textbooks in China are of mainly American and British cultures. There are few audio-visual TEFL materials in China. The influence of these EFL materials on the EFL learners is the learner's incompetence in productive communicative ability. Partial solutions are: designing more rational English curriculum with more courses of proper contents; organizing Chinese bilinguals to compile systematic English textbooks of Chinese culture such as geography, history, philosophy, Chinese customs, everyday life as another integral component of EFL textbooks. These textbooks offer EFL learners lessons on what to communicate and with what usual language forms.
