Bracken: a competitive stakeholder in the uplands

摘要

The underutilisation of permanent grazing in the uplands, as a result of both policyand economics, is leading to invasion of this land by bracken which has the potentialto render such land unrecoverable. Furthermore, bracken control in the British uplandscontinues to be misunderstood and poorly implemented in a large number of cases.These problems need to be addressed if the uplands are to make an effective contributionto future food production in the UK. The situation and related issues are discussed andsolutions proposed.
