Interpretation of the Latest Survey of the U. S. Wood Treating Industry

The motivation for this study was to develop a baseline profile of the treated wood manufacturing industry after an eight year gap since 1997, when industry data were published by the American Wood Preservers Institute (AWPI). As such, this study is asnapshot of the industry in 2004. Louisiana State University performed the study at the request of leading industry trade groups. Funding was provided by Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA), Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association, TreatedWood Council, and APA -The Engineered Wood Association, with contributions of technical support and assistance from the American Wood Preservers' Association, Railway Tie Association, Southern Pressure Treaters' Association, Timber Piling Council, andWestern Wood Preservers Institute. The analysis was directed by Richard P. Vlosky, Director and Professor, Louisiana Forest Products Development Center, School of Renewable Natural Resources, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center.
