Evaluation of PCI Coals in New Injection Facility at CanmetENERGY-OTTAWA

Increase in the use of injection fuels in BF ironmaking has prompted the industry to study various coals for their suitability/combustibility in tuyere arrangement. With the objective of evaluating coals on a relative basis, different candidate coals for PCI were studied for their burnout and ranked accordingly. Different injection conditions including various levels of O_2-enriched air were used and char samples collected were examined for type and amount of carbon forms and surface area. This paper presents and discusses main findings of work accomplished thus far.
