Many lubricated, engineering contacts, experience load and velocity which vary rapidly and periodically during the operating cycle. The elastohydrodynamic (EHD) film formed between the solid, contacting surfaces varies accordingly. During rapid variation of velocity, the film thickness is governed by two mechanisms, variable entrainment and squeeze. It has been previously shown that base fluid properties, such as viscosity and pressure/viscosity coefficient, significantly influence EHD film behavior in contacts when the rate of change of velocity is relatively high [1,2]. The present study investigates the effect of the presence of polymer additives on EHD film behavior.
