MERGERS - CAN'T LIVE WITH THEM, CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT THEM

This paper discusses the impacts of mergers on existing technology projects at energy delivery utility companies. Large technology projects typically encompass two things: 1) major changes to business processes and organizations, and 2) large capital expenditures. Both are of major interest and focus during a merger, especially when the there are multiple, overlapping technology initiatives to consider. There are multiple approaches that a Project Manager can use to position the project for success, as well as influence and play a part in the "new" company. First, it is possible - and recommended - to prepare for a merger even before the merger happens. If and when a merger or takeover is announced, these steps can be leveraged to promote the project and the team.
