AN INTERACTIVE ASSEMBLY PLANNING GENERATION METHOD FOR PRODUCT FAMILIES

Assembly planning is an important industrial issue because of its impact on the production costs and over the production system complexity. Planning assembly processes may be a hard activity due to the large number of alternate solutions mainly when products include many parts. The application of rigorous planning method and support tools may contribute to find the best assembly strategies. This paper presents an exhaustive assembly planning method for product families. The proposed method is interactive in that during the assembly plan generation process an expert is asked about the feasibility of the assembly operations. The answers are used to automatically conclude about the feasibility of other operations. A computational tool that implements the proposed method is also presented.
