A control strategy and calibration have been developed in Matlab Simulink for the control of a DISI engine operating in stratified and homogeneous charge modes. These are sub-divided into a total of five modes with distinguishing features and separate calibrations, which are described. The control of mode changes to avoid torque perturbations, misfire and knock is outlined. The development of the controller was accelerated by rapid prototyping using dSpace and hardware-in-the-loop. The facility and its use are described.
