Electrochromism is an important factor in conducting polymers for potential device applications.1 Conducting polymers are attractive due to their increased contrast ratios,long term stability,rapid response times,and the ability to be structurally modified into potentially processable materials.Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT)has been well studied as an electrochromic(EC)polymer,due to the low oxidation potential required to affect electropolymerization,its enhanced stability in the oxidized state at ambient and elevated temperatures,as well as the ability to structurally modify the monomer unit to achieve specific EC properties.2 This facet of structural engineering in EC polymers has been the focus of work conducted in our research group.
