It is widely known that the surface roughness significantly make effect to the static strength of an adhesive joint's interface. There are several surface roughness parameters such as Ra, RMSQ, for instance, but they are not sufficient to describe the relation between the polishing surface figure of steel and the static strength. The authors performed a three point bending test on a series of steel-epoxy co-cured coupon type specimens. The steel plates' surfaces were polished by emery papers and the figures were accurately measured by an optic laser equipment. A new surface parameter was proposed based on the measured wave profiles, and the relation of the surface roughness magnitude to the static bending strength was discussed. The effect was compared to the analyzing results by Ra, RMSQ.
