Studies on Shark Cartilage and Its Products

The shark has a strong nature immunity to the cancer and other diseases. Scientists believed it is shark' s cartilage skeleton which is responsible for this superimmunity. Recent years the shark cartilage has been used to make health care products for increasing immunity and relieving pain and inflammation. In this study the shark cartilage and its products were detected by molecular biological technique, Chemical analysis and microscopic examination. The gene encoding the shark major histocompatibility complex class Ia3(MHC-I-a3) is high conservative. A exon of this gene contains a PstI restriction site. After abstracting the rare DNA of the shark cartilage and its products, PCR was carried out by the DNA template and a pair of primer. If the sample containing shark cartilage PCR product will appear a 400bp band. The 400bp fragment digested by PstI will appear 240bp and 160bp two bands. Additionally, with observing the construction of shark cartilage cells and analyzing the effective composition gly-cosaminoglycan, the quality of the shark cartilage products can be appraised.
