摘要

To improve the current generation of diagnosis techniques, the paper presents a new model for the initiation and growth of the pits and cracks in the contact area of spur gears. The main criterion to split the process into initiation phase and subsequent growth of cracks is the number of cycles. The process of crack initiation is based on the theory of initiation along inclusions (grains) interfaces. The second phase, the short crack growth is studied using finite element method for simulation of the crack propagation. The comparison with numerical results is discussed.
