Top surface chemistry of three nonlinear optical borates, LiB_30_5, CsB_3O_5, P-BaB_20_4, have been studied with XPS and RHEED. A dependence of elec-tronic parameters of B-O bonds in anhydrous borates on mean chemical bond length B-O is found.
