1. Source fragmentation enhances signal and simplifies spectra in elemental analysis, analogous to collision cells in ICP-MS 2. A butane torch used in concert with a DART source enhances ionization of metals 3. Salts of alkali and transition metals were ionized under the conditions used; alkaline earth metals and solid metal substrates were difficult to ionize 4. We can simultaneously detect known inorganic and organic components using DESI-MS and torch-assisted DART-MS analysis 5. Simultaneous detection and identification of radionuclides and explosive residues with a field portable instrument is feasible for post detonation analysis in nuclear forensics.
