Seven perfluorocarboxylic acids were identified and characterized in FCS standards and commercial food contact materials while three target perfluorosulfonic acids were less than the detection limit. Perfluoroalkyl acids can be ionized at 750 V with higher efficiency. Differences in rate for the same migrant and simulant from different papers, indicates that the paper characteristics plays a role in migration. Consistent with previous results for fluorotelomer paper coatings, PFAAs show greater migration in the presence of emulsifiers.
