SuDP and SuVP are negative and neutral at pH 7.5, respectively, and can differentially label BSA using the same protein-to-crosslinker ratios. Inter- and Intra-peptide crosslinks containing either the SuDP and SuVP linker were detected for the same or different lysyl residues using ITCID-MS3. The identified crosslinked lysyl residues unique to SuDP and SuVP correlate to the complementary electrostatic potential between each crosslinker and specific lysyl residues of BSA.
