Lime, sulphur and the phosphoric acid are basic chemicals used in the manufacture of plantation white sugar. Phosphoric acid is one of the important chemicals, which plays a vital role in the purification of cane juice in the sugar industry. The sugar produced by this method in India is having sugar colour range in between 55-200 IU by GS2/3-10 method. The sugar colour is one of the most important parameter in export of the plantation white sugar. The present article focuses on the performance trial of a new chemical (replacement to phosphoric acid) conducted at three co-operative sugar factories in Maharashtra for the 2008-09 crushing season.The representative and compositejuice samples are collected and analysed for Brix, Pol, Purity, CaO content, Phophate content, Reducing sugar % and conductivity ash 96, transmittance 96, turbidity and colour. Composite sugar sample is analysed for pol 96, moisture %,reducing sugar, CaO content, conductivity ash 96, Colour, Insoluble matter. The detailed results are given in this article.
