CONDITION OF PIGLETS AND BREEDING RESULTS AFTER DISCONTINUATION OF APPLICATION OF BAYCOX 5 (BAYER A.G., GERMANY)

Among many factors contributing to pathogenesis of diarrhoea in unweaned piglets may be protozoan infections. There are 13 species of coccidiae found in pigs and Isospora suis appears to be most pathogenic for piglets. Its wide spread and important role in the pathogenesis of diarrhoea in piglets makes these infections infections important in affecting the health of animals and production in terms of pig breeding (Mundt i al., 2005; Meyer i al., 1999; Karamon i al., 2007; Rypula i al. 2006). Considering survival time of oocysts in the environment, there have been attempts to evaluate if, and to what extent, discontinuation of application of toltrazuril (Baycox~R 5%, Bayer A.G., Germany) influences breeding of piglets.
