Exogenous H_2O_2 enhanced proliferation, migration in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), and vessel formation on chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) in low concentration but inhibited in high concentration. Natural polyphenol, pedicularioside (Ped G), attenuated two prerequisite angiogenic procedures, endothelial cell proliferation and migration, as well as neovascularization in vivo. It also inhibited human hepatoma cell proliferation and migration in vitro along with tumor formation and growth in vivo. Moreover, Ped G remarkably reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) level in both endothelial cells and hepatoma cells. Therefore, Ped G has the properties of not only anti-angiogenesis but also anti-tumor growth and anti-tumorigenesis which might partially attribute to its antioxidative activity.
