Capillary electrophoresis has been effective for the separation of many organic biomacromolecules due to the high separation efficiency. The earlier results clearly indicate the potential of this method for the fingerprint characterisation of organic matter from different sources [1?3]. In this study an attempt was made to separate humic substances (HS) using capillary electrophoresis with hydrophilic-coated capillaries. The separation of HS was carried out by using polyethylene glycol-coated (CEP) capillaries, that were not used for this purpose before.
