Differences in protein turnover rates along the intestinal tract can be explained by different adsorptive mechanisms, and differences in the immune system between the small and large intestine. Additionally we demonstrate that microbiota plays a role in regulation of epithelial cell protein turnover as there was a clear difference in the protein turnover rate between ConvR and GF mice.
