Platelet glycoproteins are known to play central roles in hemostasis and vascular integrity. Platelets adhere to exposed matrices and to one another leading to platelet aggregation, forming the primary hemostatic plug. Characterizing glycoproteins within and secreted by platelets can provide insight into the mechanisms that underlie vascular pathologies and the therapeutic benefits or failure of anti-platelet agents. Glycoproteins on the platelet surface play an important role in activation and aggregation during hemostatic plug formation. Although lot is known about the functions of platelet surface glycoproteins the roles of posttranslational modifications of N-glycosylation on platelet glycoproteins, are poorly understood.
