Data Analysis in Real Time, DART, ~(1)is an ionization technique recently introduced into the MS marketplace. There is interest in DART due to the atmospheric pressure regime of the source, and that it requires little to no sample preparation; though many of its uses and limitations are relatively unknown. One goal of pharmaceutical companies is to reduce the amount of time required for the total analysis of complex human samples, such as plasma or urine. DART has the potential to reduce analysis time by eliminating sample prep and extended HPLC runs. Though DART may save time, it shows neither the reliability nor the sensitivity of traditional LC/MS or even infusion techniques, for the analysis of human urine samples.
