Transcending East and West: Knowledge Creation in Melanesian Epistemology

Technology-leveraged work environments pose evolving challenges to managers seeking to maintain organizational equilibrium. By applying elements from different cultural traditions, managers can optimize human potential and facilitate environments conducive to knowledge creation. This paper provides insight into Melanesian epistemology as means of deepening management knowledge of an epistemological orientation, which both contrasts and parallels Eastern and Western paradigms. It uses Melanesian epistemology to illuminate the "cargo" metaphor of the knowledge-technology-power continuum, which has potential application to organizations seeking to replicate conditions conducive to the hypertransformations of the knowledge-creating company of the future.
