摘要

With the growing trend of digitalisation within shipbuilding industry, current ship designers have plethora of tools available to aid and enhance the ship design process. Combination of BIM tools with laser scan point cloud and virtual reality technology creates numerous applications for shipbuilding industry which, when implemented and managed accordingly, can significantly elevate project performance. What are those applications and how to successfully integrate them into the design process? This paper aims to describe benefits of digital design tools, basing on a number of newbuilding, retrofit and conversion project monitored and managed with the aid of a comprehensive ERP software. These digital design tools have been thoroughly studied and explained in various academic and industrial journals identifying and highlighting benefits/challenges associated with their use. Unfortunately, there is a lack of available data showcasing the benefits or risks associated with implementing them in a project along with current practices. This paper aims to provide such data based on actual projects managed and executed. Moreover, it examines the array of innovative applications of this technology and foreseeable future development areas.
