摘要

The detection of exposure to sulfur mustard (SM) can be useful for more than one reason. Firstly, to establish firmly whether casualties have indeed been exposed to the chemical; secondly, these methods will be useful for the verification of alleged non-adherence to the Chemical Weapon Convention (CWC). Especially in the later application it appears that maximal retrospectivity, preferably over a period of several months, is most desirable. Moreover, these methods can be used in a variety of other applications also such as, for health surveillance of workers in destruction facilities of chemical warfare agents (CWAs) and in forensic analyses in cases of suspected terrorist activities.
